Caleb's Graduation

Caleb graduated from preschool on Tuesday. It was cute. They had a little singing performance right before they called each of the kids to come forward and get their 'diploma'. I was a little disappointed that Caleb was in the middle row and the kids in front hats made it very hard to see him. Even behind the hat, I could see some attempts at making the motions to the songs and to singing. The favorite part of the evening for the kids were the cookies after.


Caleb went to a preschool this year that was only one day a week. This preschool was a a church and was at no cost at all. They even provided the kids with a snack. I have been very impressed with this preschool program. They gave each of the kids the cutest book at the end with pictures of things they did throughout the year. The kids also each got a child's Bible at graduation. It has been great, but Caleb needs more than one day so next year he will be going to pre-k and it will be 3 hours 3 days a week. It will be a huge adjustment for him.

This week was also right-to-read week at Leah's school. We've been reading lots of books and they've had some fun things planned at school. On Wednesday, it was dress like an alien day. I really struggled with what to have Leah wear. I decided to make her costume out of a paper bag. I cover it with aluminum foil and duct tape. I had Leah glue what she called buttons on it. I thought it turned out well, but Leah didn't really want to wear it after all my hard work. However, the deal was that she had to wear it until her teacher saw it. I figured that she would end up leaving it on when she saw the other kids. She did hold up her end of the bargain, but she did not leave it on. She told me that Mrs. O'Brien said it was awesome and the other kids that saw it loved it too. I guess one of her friends tried to tell her to put it back on, but she didn't want too. She took it off so quick that she could name 5 or 6 kids who actually saw it.

The good news is that Caleb thinks it's a pretty cool dress up outfit!

Leah's Performance

Leah had her first school performance last night. It was titled "I'm Proud to Be An American". It was a singing event where the entire Kindergarten Center sang several song. Then each individual class a a special song. It was cute watching them. Some of the kids really knew the words and were very into singing and others didn't know any words or were too distracted looking around at everything to sing. Leah was definitely in the later group.

These type of things are totally for the parents, but I love to go. Rod loves how I always have to get there way early to make sure I get a good seat. I guess it's a good thing that they only have this stuff once or twice a year. Caleb is having his preschool 'graduation' this Tuesday night so we have another even to look forward too. More performance blogging to follow.

Alissa's Party Day

Alissa's birthday party was Saturday. It turned out to be a great day. The weather was warm enough for the kids to play outside and Alissa enjoyed all the festivities. It was a busy and exciting day. We ended the day with a second birthday party. One of Alissa's little friends had her 2nd birthday party too. Alissa and Mya are only 3 days apart in age.

Alissa is 2!

It's so hard for me to write and believe that my baby is 2! Time flies so quickly. Unfortunately for her, no matter how old she is, she will be my baby!

Rod was off work for Alissa's birthday. We didn't have much planned, but it ended up being a busy day. To make the day special, we took Alissa to McDonalds for dinner. She likes to play in the playplace there and the kids had a blast. I made her a small plain cake and of course she opened presents. The birthday party is yet to come.

Loving the Curls

If you did notice in my previous post that Leah's hair looked different, then here the scoop. During spring break we took a trip to my Dad's and Jean's house. Jean offered to cut Leah's hair and she was so excited. She'd been begging to have her hair cut short to her shoulders. We compromised a little below her shoulders. It will be nice a little shorter for the summer. However, I prefer her hair longer, but she gets to choose since it is her hair, right?

While she was getting her hair done by Jean after the hair cut, we were talking about sponge rollers. I wore them as a kid and wondered how they would do in Leah's hair. Jean had some older ones that she said I could try out. We tried them out on Friday after bath. Although she thought I was crazy expecting her to sleep in them, when she work up with curly hair she was in love! She has been wanting the rollers in every night so that she has "beautiful" hair every morning. The old sponge rollers weren't holding up. The foam was falling about and shrinking with each use. I finally went out and bought her new ones. The new ones actually don't work quite as well, but well enough.

I know this will wear out, but for now we'll all have to get used to curly haired Leah. Caleb said that she looks like a grandma with the rollers in, but I think it's cute!

Spring Break, I can't believe it's over

It's hard to believe that Spring Break flew by so quickly. I really enjoyed having all the kids home (I wasn't sure how it would go at first). It was so nice not having to worry about schedules, catching the bus, and all the other business. Leah did have some homework, but we really kept the week low key.

We started spring break with a weekend trip to Mammaw and Pappy's house. It was our first experience taking the dog with us on a visit. The dog did fine on the trip, but during our visit he was terrible. He had to spend most of the time on the leash or in the cage since he kept wanting to mark his territory. (We are getting him and Harvey fixed tomorrow so hopefully that helps some.) Dash did have a lot of fun playing with Oscar (Bill and Karen's dog). The visit was very nice (other than dog issues).

We started the week off slow and relaxing. On Wednesday Aunt Steph took Leah and Caleb to her house for a sleepover. They were so excited! They had such a good time. Then on Thursday we had a skating trip planned with one of Leah's school friends. This was the first skating trip that the kids had ever done. I was nervous about it, but luckily Rod had planned to take a half day and Alissa stayed with him, maybe Alissa will go next time. Both Leah and Caleb enjoyed skating at first. We first got the Fisher Price skates that they could easily get around in. Caleb pooped out on me quickly, but Leah could have skated even longer. She ended up getting the "fast" skates and she did surprisingly well with them. I was very proud of her. It was good quality time with Leah's friend Maddie and Caleb made up with her sister Maryn. Maryn and Caleb go to school together, but Caleb has always refused to even say hi. By the end of our outing Caleb and Maryn were teaming up on name calling against the older girls.

After skating we took a trip to Papa's house. We ended up having a couple of really beautiful days up there. They weather was great and the kids enjoyed the farm and playing outside. Leah spent a lot of time talking to the cows and Caleb wanted to spend his time on the tractors!

The weekend was spent going to a Easter egg hunt, birthday party, egg coloring, church, finding Easter baskets and Adam and Steph's for a yummy non-traditional Easter dinner. The week flew by, but it was very nice.
